The increased availability of data provides new opportunities to support sustainable development. By combining and analyzing different data sources, new insights and knowledge could potentially be gained. Join our next Open Tea on ‘data-informed decision-making’ to learn more!

On September 25th, Data4Development and Partos / The Spindle host this year’s third Open Tea. Let us focus on learning from each others’ challenges and providing fresh insight or new points of view rather than merely sharing our success stories.

• Time Open Tea: 15.30h – 18.30h (with drinks)
• Location: Simavi, Naritaweg 135, 1043 BS Amsterdam

The programme

During the afternoon, four cases will be presented:

  • Simavi (Pieter de Jong) will discuss their use of data gathering applications, which are also used for management steering.
  • Aidsfonds (Eva Roos) is working on combining and analyzing different data sources on Zoom, an open data-platform. Their challenge lies in working to make it possible to visualise data for specific locations such as a city or even zooming in on a neighbourhood.
  • Data4Development (Maaike Blom/ Jeaphianne van Rijn) will share their learning journey of a data mining pilot with IATI data. Here we searched a data pool of 14.397 activities for organisations in Uganda active in education, trying to put together an identifiable network of related organisations from a pool of over 14 thousand activities.
  • HiiL (to be confirmed) is active in large scale data gathering for the purpose of learning about people’s access to justice systems.

*Open Tea: A community of data professionals
The open tea is an informal network meeting about information & data. A community of data professionals to support organisations to increase the use of data in the development sector.

The open tea is organised by Partos / The Spindle and Data4Development who have joined in a partnership for the promotion of data-informed decision making. It is their shared vision that the use of high-quality information and data is an important building block for transparency and effectiveness of aid. In 2018, you can expect more events on “data-informed decision-making” in Dutch development cooperation.
