The NOW-Us! Week 2019 is upon us!

A week full of opportunities to share, connect and improve

agenda October 3, 2019

Only 4 days left until NOW-Us! 2019! This weekend the nominated NOW-Us! teams from across the world will arrive in The Netherlands to join the NOW-Us! Week. A week to celebrate inclusion in general and target-led initiatives in particular. During the week teams are able to present their projects, learn from each other and work on the progress of their initiatives. Obviously, for all the teams this week ends on October 11 at the Partos Innovation Festival where eventually the winner of the NOW-Us! Award will be announced.

NOW-Us! Week 2019: A week full of opportunities to share, connect and improve
Last summer The Spindle and Voice searched for initiatives that are ‘target-led’ and trigger the self-empowerment of marginalised and excluded groups and communities. This year, 162 inclusive frontrunners applied for the NOW-Us! Award. The final top 10, selected by HandSpeak Vietnam (winners of the NOW-Us! Award 2018), Voice and The Spindle, are invited to join the upcoming NOW-Us! Week. A week full of opportunities for the nominees to share knowledge and experiences as well as making connections with all kinds of people and organisations. A week in which the teams are able to exchange their motivation and challenges. A week in which they get the opportunity to improve their innovative concepts and projects. Pushing themselves to make a change for their community. However, to get a real good impression: watch last year’s aftermovie.

NOW-Us! teams 2019: “I feel so happy and I’m looking forward to meet all the other teams and learn from them”
Exciting days are ahead. Not only The Spindle and Voice are looking forward to the NOW-Us! Week, it seems that the participants are enthusiastic as well! We asked them how they’re feeling about the upcoming week and here are some answers:

“When we learnt that we were selected we were surprised that out of 162 organisations in Africa and Asia, Deaf Tech Kids is in the top 10. Truly it’s a remarkable opportunity for us! We feel so happy and we’re looking forward to meet all the other teams and learn from them. It’s a great opportunity for us to learn from different organisations and how they are promoting inclusion in their country. We’re also looking forward to learn from the experts during the workshops and how to improve our work with deaf kids.” Deaf Tech Kids

“A very big thank you for inviting us. When I first heard about our nomination for the program and participation at the inclusion festival I really felt excited and to be invited to the Netherlands, also to learn from everyone experiences.” Empowering the blinds in all spheres of life through inclusion

“When we heard about our nomination for the NOW-Us! Week, we were excited because we are going to a new place, a new country to meet people who are causing a difference by inclusion of the marginalised groups. It’s something that I am passionate about and I am excited to meet people who can teach me more.”Making the journey for change in Lamu, Kenya

NOW-Us! Award 2019: Who will win this year’s Award?
Semi-finals. All of the teams are finalists of the NOW-Us! Award 2019 and that’s already a great accomplishment. On Wednesday, October 9, we organise the semi-finals, where each NOW-Us! team will participate by having a Q&A with the NOW-Us! Jury and by pitching their projects in 2 minutes in front of the jury and an audience! At the end of this evening, the jury announces the top 3 finalists who will continue their journey to the finals.

Grande finale. The Partos Innovation Festival (organised by Partos and The Spindle) on October 11 is a day on which we celebrate innovation in development cooperation. With a programme that is jam-packed with inspiring sessions and workshops, we’ll dive into this year’s theme: inclusion. Yet, it’s also the moment of truth for the three NOW-Us! finalists. During the festive Award ceremony, it will be announced who will win the NOW-Us! Award 2019. So stay tuned, or buy your ticket for the festival if you want to see these inclusive frontrunners on stage!
